Our History

The Human Rights Centre Uganda (HRCU) is a nonprofit organization established in November 2008 with the sole aim of contributing to the protection and promotion of the rights of Human Rights Defenders in Uganda. Having scanned the environment for the work of human rights actors in Uganda, HRCU is of the view that there is need in Uganda to give emphasis to the promotion and protection of the rights of human rights defenders.

Our Programme Areas

Capacity Building

Through training and capacity development programme, HRCU contributes to the promotion and protection of the rights of Human Rights Defenders (HRDs)

Research & Documentation

We have been undertaking studies on the situation of HRDs in Uganda; analyzing their working environment, challenges, threats, opportunities

Networking & Advocacy

Over the years, the organization has grown through a focus on its mandate of contributing to a conducive environment for the protection of human rights defenders in Uganda.

Legal Aid

HRCU provides professional, practical and sound legal advice, legal assistance, counselling, Court representation to Human Rights Defenders (HRDs)
